Titanium Carbonitride Based Cermets

Cermet is a kind of hard alloy matertial , which manufactured through powder metallurgic process based on TiC, TiN or Ti( C, N) as hard phase, and Ni, Co and Mo as binder. The name CERMET COMBINES THE WORDS CERAMIC AND METAL. In comparision to Tungsten cemented carbide, Cermet has improved wear resistance, chemical stability, thermal stability and lower density. But on the other hand, it also has lower compressive strength and toughness. Therefore, the cermet is very suitable for making metal cutting tools, especially for finishing and semi-finishing tools, as well as various wear resistance, corrosion-resistance and heat-resistance parts such as ball valve, flange, small bearing metal, bearing seeves, nozzles and seal-ring etc.

As cutting tools, the advantage of cermet is inferior affinity with the work piece and extreme low wear coefficient, so cermet grades are preferably used inhigh speed finishing and semi-finishing of carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and c ast iron, where crater wear and built-up edge are problems. It enables a long tool life, close tolerances and beautiful cutting surfaces.
